Tegete sends Mwanza to the Kili Taifa Cup final

Two goals by striker Jerry Tegete helped Mwanza Heroes to beat Ilala 2-1 in the semifinal match of this year’s Kili Taifa Cup at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha yesterday.

Mwanza dominated almost from the first whistle and created several decent scoring chances in the first half.

The lake boys finally broke the deadlock in the 45th minute when Tegete registered the first goal after beating a couple of Ilala defenders.

Tegete was on the score sheet again in the 57th minute finishing superbly a penalty kick after Malegesi Mwangwa was brought down by Ilala defender Erick Mwala..

Bakari Mpakala, who came off from the bench to replace Benedict Ngassa, scored the consolation goal for Ilala in the 89th minute.

Mpakala scored through a free-kick that went straight untouched into the net.

Tegete was elected as the man of the match and was awarded 100,000/= by the sponsors of the championship, Tanzania Breweries Limited through their Kilimanjaro brand.

The second semi final will be played today at the same stadium when Mbeya will face Kagera.

For the last 20 years I have been working as a football pundit. This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....
