Malinzi drops TGU cap

Dioniz Malinzi

The newly appointed National Sports Council’s chairman Dioniz Malinzi declared to drop the Tanzania Golf Union’s cap last Saturday.

The new NSC boss said it would be of useful importance to leave the cap to another person so as to effectively concentrate on his present post.

Malinzi who was the guest of honour during the presentation ceremony to mark the end of the Stanbic Bank’s Golf Challenge at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club last Saturday, said he still remains as an ardent golfer.

Known for his staunch support of the game ever since he was introduced in 2004, Malinzi said he still needs o see golfers are braking barriers in terms of international participation.

As a recreational golfer, Malinzi has been addictive to the game as he plays in almost on daily basis beside those times of emergencies.

“Golf is in my blood and there is no way I can be sidelined from the game both in playing and supporting”, said Malinzi amid a silent wave of euphoria that scattered across those golfers who attended the presentation ceremony.

It was like a hot knife cutting across the cold butter at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana club last Saturday as he made the revelations to part ways with golf leadership.

Though there are several golfers who are capable of running the golf union, Malinzi’s charismatic drive and the brand of extensive generosity to part with huge amount of resources for the sake of the game’s development is likely to be second to none in the contemporary golf history of the nation.

The man has already parted with colossal amount of resources to lift the image of the country including participation of the national team at international high-profile events outside the borders.

Malinzi who has already served as Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club’s golf captain for two back to back tenures was on his way to be voted for the second tenure as TGU chairman next December.

TGU executive committee would have to meet and ratify his successor with Arusha Gymkhana Club’s Paul Matthysen likely to step in his shoes.

Matthysen has been working with a remarkable hand in glove cooperation with Malinzi ever since they were voted to power in February 2009.

Though Malinzi would not be missed at the DGC and other golf courses, his disengagement from decision making within the TGU will be conspicuously be felt.

His global connections in terms of golf administration is what most of the amateur and professional golfers likely to endure.

Malinzi, has taken over from outgoing NSC chairman Idd Kipingu who served for te past three years. The Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Emmanuel Nchimbi appointed Malinzi as Kipingu’s successor on Thursday last week in Dar es Salaam.

For the last 20 years I have been working as a football pundit. This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....
