Tenga hails Twiga Stars

President of the Tanzania Football federation, TFF, Leodegar Tenga

President of the Tanzania Football federation, TFF, Leodegar Tenga has expressed his sincere appreciation and acknowledge superb job done by the national women soccer team, Twiga Stars, in the ongoing inaugural Cosafa championship in Harare.

Tenga said Twiga Stars progression into the semifinals is something to be proud of by the entire nation no matter how they perform after that stage.

He said the team, which made an ad hoc preparation after winning an invitation at eleventh hour, has so far exceeded expectations.

“We wish them the best of luck in the championship and we hope they would also remain upbeat ahead of the All Africa Games to be staged in Mozambique in September,” said Tenga.

The Twiga Stars team date South Africa in the Group A formality match today after posting two wins over Botswana and Zambia over the weekend.

Twiga Stars cruised to an emphatic 3-1 victory over Botswana in their opening game before breezing past Zambia by 2-0.

The finals will be played on Saturday.

The Tanzania team has been invited to compete by the Cosafa secretariat virtually basing on the team’s performance during last year’s African Nations Cup staged in Johannesburg.

The Cosafa championship is the perfect platform for the Twiga Stars who are gearing up for the Games in Mozambique.
