Kayuni clarifies his role at TFF

The technical director of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Sunday Kayuni has said his role and job description keep him far from direct involvement of the senior national team.

He said head coach Jan Poulsen and him are working independent of each other and people should not link him with the team’s success or failure.

Kayuni said there is no direct cooperation or consultation between him and Poulsen when it comes to the operations linked with the national team’s selection, coaching or whatever.

Speaking at TFF offices, Kayuni said it’s wrong to involve him in the national team selection and in planning for the game and tactics to be used during a match.

Kayuni said most of the people do not understand his job description as they wrongly link him in any failure by the senior national team.

He said his core job is to develop football talents from the grassroots level, have the data base for the upcoming players and nurture their talent, that’s all!

“My job is not to coach the national team or to help the coach in players’ selection or tactics to be used in a particular game. As a technical director I have to see that the country is producing many players who can feature in the future for the national team and football clubs”, he said.

He said the national team coach works independently as he has his own philosophies and there is no room for him (Kayuni) to interfere whether both parties like the trend or not.

Kayuni said his work requires him to work closely with the national youth team coach so that they can develop the team together.

“My duty is to work with the national junior team coach and his technical staff, to implement football programs and ensure sustainability. I have a close cooperation with the youth national teams coach who work with me because he is involved in players’ development and that’s our link up,” he said.

Kayuni remarks come in awake of some football fans who have been questioning the performance of the senior national soccer team, Taifa Stars.

A section of fans across the nation are throwing blanket accusations on him and coach Poulsen in connection with the overall performance of the Taifa Stars.

Stars are at cross roads to cross the 2013 African Nations Cup qualifiers having ended their first leg game to a 1-1 draw with visiting Mozambique at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

The result has placed Stars on an overhanging cliff with the possibility of wining the return leg in Maputo banking on complex mathematical permutations.

For the last 20 years I have been working as a football pundit. This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....
