TFF asks Gov`t to reverse decision on stadium

Tanzania  Football Federation (TFF) has asked the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports to reverse its decision of temporary closing the 60,000-seater National Stadium so that Taifa Stars should play their qualifying game against Algeria (Desert Warriors) in the African Nations Cup at the venue.
The Ministry recently announced that the National Stadium will be temporary closed due to maintenance work to repair the damage at the venue. The government advised TFF to look for alternative venues during the period.
TFF information officer Boniface Wambura said the federation has reached the point of writing the Ministry because the soccer’s governing body had already informed the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that the match will be played in Dar es Salaam at the National Stadium.
Wambura said though they appreciate that Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza is the second best stadium in the country, TFF knows that hosting the match at the venue will be very costly to the federation.
According to Wambura, TFF will be required to cover air transport costs for both teams and officials.
Wambura also said their letter to the Ministry is also basing on the fact that delegates from Algeria Football Federation has already visited Dar es Salaam and inspected a hotel where they will be accommodated.
He also said hosting the match in Mwanza will earn his federation a hefty fine from CAF.
