Simba on sword as Sofapaka win

Sofapaka cruised into the quarter-finals of the ongoing Kagame Cup championship after edging Simba by a lone goal in a Group C match played at the Nyamirambo Stadium here yesterday.

Determinant Sofapaka looked serious and versatile right from the kick off as they took full control of the game, particularly in the first half an hour.

The victory has powered Sofapaka into the quarter-finals as they joined TP Mazembe in the last eight.

Simba need to beat Uganda champions URA in their final match to be played at

the Nyamirambo Stadium tomorrow.

A win or a draw would still give Simba the quart-final progression but this would also depend on how other teams fair in the two groups.

Simba’s talismanic striker Musa Hassan came close to put his team ahead after gallant efforts to control a long ball but surprisingly shot wide.

Sofapaka came into the game with well coordinated attacks as they besieged Simba goal.

Hugo Nzoka shot wide with Simba goalkeeper Juma Kaseja at his mercy after 27 minutes as Sofapaka looked well in possession to torment their opponent’s defence.

Their efforts paid off when John Barasa broke the stalemate after 31 minutes courtesy of Simba defenders’ mix up.

The lone goal lead stayed intact up to the end of the game as Simba made frantic efforts to search for an elusive equaliser.

The match was the second for the day in the group.
