Simba end league unbeaten
Newly crowned champions Simba have opened a new chapter in the Mainland premier soccer after finishing the league with unique unbeaten run, yesterday.
Simba cruised to 4-0 goals in their final match played at the Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro, opening a two goal lead up to half time mark courtesy of Musa Hassan and Mohamed Kijuso’s opener.
Ramadhan Chombo and Hassan concluded the mission with goals in the final half as Mtibwa Sugar never recovered.
After 22 matches Simba dropped only four points, two each in matches against Kagera Sugar and African Lyon after playing to 1-1 draws.
Arguably the best team in the domestic soccer so far, Simba had posted 20 wins and two draws to chalk staggering 62 points.
Simba never resorted to complacency even in their yesterday’s match as they fielded their first choice squad against the Morogoro side.
Yesterday’s victory came barely three days after shocking their rivals Yanga by dramatic 4-3 goals in the penultimate round match played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Simba scored a total of 50 goals while conceding 12 with a superb goal aggregates of 38.
Two other teams of Prisons FC and Manyema Rangers have been demoted after drawing their final matches yesterday.
While Manyema Rangers ended their match against Azam with a barren draw at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga, Prisons drew 1-1 with Yanga at the Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
Prisons demotion came in the last five minutes when Yanga’s Ugandan import Steven Bengo pulled an equaliser.
In Mwanza Toto Africa survived relegation after winning by 3-1 goals against Kagera Sugar in the match played at the CCM Kirumba Stadium.
In Dodoma African Lyon battled to 1-1 draw with JKT Ruvu in a formality match.
Majimaji went down to 2-0 goals at the hands of relegated Moro United in Songea with Stephano Mwasika opening in the fifth minute before Yona Ndabila converted a penalty late in the second half.
