Bright start for U-19 cricketers

Tanzanian women cricketers started the African under-19 championship with an impressive win when they edged Zambia by 82-81 runs in the opening mach played at the Annadil Burhani venue in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The losers won the toss and opted to bat registering 81 runs while losing nine wickets in the 30 allotted overs.

In response, the host side exceeded the pre-set target by one run using eight wickets with two overs to spare in the 30 overs limited matches.

Zambian one Sharon scored 14 runs during their innings as the home side’s bowlers Zakia Saguti and Esther Mika claimed two wickets each. Saguti scored 21 runs in the build to the host side’s win.

Tanzania hosts Kenya in a second match today, so crucial to boost the home side’s hope of winning the title.

Kenya and Uganda played their match later in the evening.

The tourney continues today with Tanzania hosting Kenya at the same venue. Five teams are competing in the tourney including Rwanda.
