Simba SC, sugar men meet in crucial duel
Simba and Mtibwa Sugar, who are among five teams vying for the second slot, lock horns in a Vodacom Premier League match in Morogoro today.
A win in the match to be played at Jamhuri Stadium, will place the Dar es Salaam-based side in a better position in the campaign to qualify for the Confederation Cup.
Second-placed Simba tie with Kagera Sugar on 27 points each but the former beat the sugar men with goal difference.
Defending champions Yanga are on top of the 12-team league, with 45 points and a draw or a win in their Wednesday match against Toto Africa will make the team trained by Serbian Dusan Kondic win the title for the third time consecutively.
Simba assistant coach Amri Said expressed confidence that the Msimbazi Street boys will win the game, saying that a win will enhance their chances of finishing second.
Other teams that are contesting for the second seat are JKT Ruvu and Toto Africa who have 24 points each.
“We won`t allow mistakes which made us lose 2-1 against Moro United to happen again. In fact, we are going to be very keen in this game,“ the trainer added.
On his part, Mtibwa Sugar coach Salum Manyanga said that, his players had prepared well to use their home ground. “We are well equipped to face them.
Losing at our home ground will be a disgrace to us,“ Manyanga said. Mtibwa Sugar was beaten 2-1 by Prisons of Mbeya and forced a 1-1 draw with Azam FC in their last two games.
The league will continue tomorrow when Polisi Moro play Moro United on the same venue. On Tuesday, Prisons will play Kagera Sugar on Tuesday while Villa Squad will entertain Azam on Wednesday.
