Kilimanjaro Stars, Zanzibar in action
Mainland national soccer team, Kilimanjaro Stars, are expected to play Somalia in a Senior Challenge Cup, Group `A` at Nakivubo Stadium here today.
The organisers of the championship, Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa), said yesterday that the match would kick off at 1.30pm.
This will be the first game for the team trained by Marcio Maximo to play in this year`s edition while it will be the second for Somalia who lost 0-2 against Zanzibar on Thursday.
Maximo said yesterday that his team had prepared well for the game. “I hope we will win this game.
We saw their weaknesses when they played Zanzibar. We are also targeting to capitalise on them too,“ Maximo said, adding that he would also use some of youth players who he promoted to the senior side.
On his part, Kilimanjaro Stars captain Henry Joseph said that they had prepared well to win all matches. “We are here to win all games and finally win the title, that is all,“ he claimed.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president, Leodegar Tenga, promised to give Stars` players 30,000 dollars (above 30m/-) if the team win the title.
Somalia coach Mohammed Farah said he had rectified mistakes which resulted to his team`s 2-0 defeat in their first game.
“We will be struggling to win this game for us to keep our hopes alive,“ Farah said.
Zanzibar will play The Cranes in the second match scheduled to kick off at 10pm on the same ground.
The match is expected to be tough considering that both teams won their first matches played on Thursday.
Zanzibar hit Somalia 2-0 while the Cranes hammered Rwanda`s Amavubi 4-0.
