JK challenges TFF, praises Maximo
President Jakaya Kikwete has urged the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to start preparing to take over the responsibility of paying the salaries of national soccer coaches.
The president made the statement when addressing the nation from the National Assembly in Dodoma yesterday.
He said the government would not pay the salaries of the coaches for life and instead asked TFF to start saving money to pay them in future. “There is nowhere in the constitution that says the government should pay the salaries of the national coaches.
I just agreed to pay for the salary of Marcio Maximo in good faith because I wanted to uplift our standard which was low by that time,“ he said.
Kikwete said Maximo was a good coach and praised him for uplifting the standard of soccer in the country within a short time.
The president said that he would soon focus on athletics.
“I will talk to Athletics Tanzania and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Sports to see how we can help them uplift the game,“ he added.
