Yanga, Simba advance
Two goals scored by Maurice Sunguti yesterday enabled Yanga to qualify for the next round of the Confederation Cup with a 2-1 aggregate against AS Adema of Madagascar.
The Kenyan striker scored the goals in the second half during the return leg match played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Sunguti scored the first goal through penalty in the 53rd minute.
A Sudanese referee had awarded a foul after one of the Adema defenders roughed Mrisho Ngasa in the danger zone. Sunguti added another in the 69th minute.
Adema defeated Yanga 1-0 in the first leg match played two weeks ago in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
In another development, Tanzania representatives in the Champions League, Simba SC, also qualified for the next stage of the continental competition after forcing a 1-1 draw with hosts Awasa in the Champions League return leg match in Addis Ababa yesterday.
Simba manager Innocent Njovu, speaking by telephone from Addis Ababa yesterday, said Awasa scored in the first minute before Athumani Machupa equalized for the Tanzania champions in the 12th minute.
Simba defeated Awasa 3-0 in the first leg match played at Dar es Salaam’s National Stadium two weeks ago.
Simba are likely to play Enyimba of Nigeria in the next stage.
