The national secondary schools’ games come to an end today in Kibaha where the Constitution and Legal Affairs deputy minister, Angela Kariuki, is expected to be the guest of honour during the closing ceremony.
Kairuki replaces the deputy minister of Education and Vocational Training who was earlier named to preside over the ceremony.
Kairuki is expected to witness two football final matches – one for boys and the other for girls – before presenting the prizes.
National UMMISETA chairman Salvatore Shauri said that the minister’s convoy is expected earlier in the afternoon ahead of the girls’ final match that would precede the boys one.
Dar es Salaam Zone comes against Eastern Zone in the girls final while the boys final involve hot favourites Zanzibar who plays against Northern-East Zone.
Dar es Salaam girls’ soccer team outclassed Lake Zone by 3-0 goals during the semifinal stage.
Zanzibar boys’ booked a final date with Northern East zone after beating Lake Zone 4-3 on penalties. Northern West failed to make it to the finals, as they succumbed to 2-1 defeat at the hands of Northern East.
Classification matches for the third and fourth places were expected to be played yesterday evening.
Outstanding players of the tournament are expected to join the national youth team that would feature in this year’s edition of Federation of East African Secondary Schools Association (FEASA) tournament to be hosted by Burundi.
