Zanzibar National Beach Volleyball Championship ends

A two day Zanzibar National Beach Volleyball championship ended this weekend with Omar Ali and Mohamed Ismail from Mafunzo clinching the trophy for the men’s category while the successful Beach volleyball duo of Zuhura and Mwana being crowned as Beach volleyball queens.

The tournament sponsored by Kendwa Beach Resort Hotel in Zanzibar attracted more than forty players who for two days fought vigorously to win the national title in the Beach Volleyball.

Experienced players from mainland Tanzania also participated to show their prowess in the Beach volleyball.

Zuhura and Mwana who participated in the last year’s Olympic qualifications in Mombasa Kenya easily turned the table in their favour to clinch the title in the ladies category.

However their male compatriots of Athuman Kadoo and Nasor Aman failed to show their supremacy and last year’s Mombasa skills as they faced hard nut to crack of the Zanzibar’s Omar and Mohamed.

The tournament was officially opened on Saturday by the Minister of Education Abdullah Shamuhuna who called upon Tanzania Volleyball Association “TAVA” and Zanzibar Volleyball Association “ZAVA” to work together for the development of volleyball in Tanzania.

The Minister asked TAVA to influence and invite as many teams from nearby East Africa to make the tournament more colourful and even make them know Zanzibar.

During the colorful closing ceremony the National Sports Council Secretary General ZANZIBAR Mr Tawakal called upon other sponsors to emulate Kendwa Beach Resort in sponsoring volleyball

TAVA was represented by the Vice PRESIDENT Muharam Mchume

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
