Dar boxer lined up vs Ugandan

Thomas Mashali has been lined up for the East and Central Africa middle weight ten-round title bout against Ugandan boxer Med Sebyala in one of the sporting events to be staged in memory of the late Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere on October 14 in Dar es Salaam

The Tanzania Professional Boxing Organization event will be hosted by Friends Corner in the city.

TPBO in collaboration with Media Entertainment and Arts Promotion have organised the championship bout
as confirmed by its president Yassin Abdallah.

Abdallah said the boxing fraternity understands Nyerere’s contribution in sports, hence TPBO acknowledges it.

“We believe that honouring Mwalimu will boost boxing and our efforts will pay off as we try to attain high standards of the game”, he said.

The boxing duo has been motivated by the occasion as they praise the father of the nation who laid the foundation of the country.

Mashali defended his middle weight title in June when he triumphed over Kyela boxer Maisha Samson in a sixth round knockout.

Another win next month would be a perfect honour to Mwalimu Nyerere. Ugandan boxer is expected to arrive in the country early next month ahead of the bout.

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
