Seven teams ready for junior handball tourney

Seven teams have so far confirmed to represent Tanzania in the East and Central Africa Junior handball championship set for next month at Dar es Salaam`s Indoor Stadium.

Tanzania Handball Association (Taha) Secretary-General Sudi Omary yesterday named the teams as Temeke Rangers, Dar Stars, Chan`gombe, Mpwapwa (boys and girls), and Dodoma (boys and girls).

“The teams have already started training for the event at various grounds,“ he said.

Omary said Kenya would send eight teams in the championships while Uganda was yet to confirm.

In another development, Sudi said the preparation of the East and Central Africa handball championship was going on well.

The regional tournament meant for senior teams will be staged in Mwanza from August 16.

Prisons and Dar Stars will each field two teams – men and women. Other countries that have so far confirmed are Democratic Republic of Congo ( 10 teams), Congo Brazzaville (four), Kenya (six), Uganda (four), Rwanda (one), Burundi (one), Ethiopia (two), Comoro (one), Djibouti (one) and Zanzibar (one).
